You are right, Bloglines is having trouble today :(
Regarding your comment about subscribing to feeds as opposed to adding a site to your favorites, you are right about the portability of the feed reader.
If I just "favorite" something, I only have access on that computer, and I use at least three different comuters on a regular basis. Also, if I just favorite a site, I have to go back and look every couple days to see if there is new content.
When I subscribe to RSS feeds through Bloglines (assuming the site includes feeds) it notifies me when new content is added to a site. This allows me to be somewhat more efficient - I can spend my time reading new content, as opposed to checking each and every site to see if there is any new content, only to discover there half the time there isn't.
